That’s wild about the telematics—

“One company flagged us for ‘hard braking events’ and tried to bump our rates, even though most of those were just city traffic nonsense.”
I’m just getting started with fleet insurance, and honestly, stuff like that makes me nervous. Is it actually worth installing telematics if insurers might use the data against you? Or do most folks find it helps more than it hurts? I’m trying to figure out if it’s better to have the extra data or just keep things simple for now.

Honestly, I wouldn’t touch telematics with a ten-foot pole unless you’re forced to. All that “data” just gives insurance more ammo to nickel-and-dime you. Half the time, hard braking is just avoiding idiots in traffic, not reckless driving. Sometimes simpler really is better.

That’s exactly it. I had a ‘72 Chevelle for years—no fancy tech, just me and the road. If I’d had telematics tracking every swerve or brake tap, my “score” would’ve looked terrible, but it was just city drivers cutting me off. I get why fleets use it, but honestly, I’d rather pay a bit more than have a computer judge my driving style. Sometimes old-school really is safer, at least for my nerves.
