I get where you’re coming from—rate hikes after an accident can be a real shock, especially when you think your record’s spotless. But I always wonder if accident forgiveness is worth the extra cost for everyone. Have you ever run the numbers on how much more you’d pay over, say, five years just to have that “get out of jail free” card? Sometimes the premium bump for adding forgiveness is almost as much as the increase after a minor accident, depending on the company.

I’ve seen folks pay for it for years and never use it, which feels like money down the drain. On the flip side, if you’re unlucky (or drive a lot in busy areas), maybe it’s a decent hedge. I guess it comes down to how risk-averse you are and what your driving habits look like. Personally, I’d rather stash the difference in a savings account and hope for the best, but I get why some people want that peace of mind. Insurance is such a weird gamble...

Honestly, I’m with you on the “insurance is such a weird gamble” part. I’ve run the numbers too and for me, accident forgiveness just never penciled out. I’d rather keep that extra cash for repairs or upgrades on my old Chevy. But hey, if you’re driving in Columbus rush hour every day, maybe it’s worth the peace of mind. Just depends how much risk you’re willing to take, I guess.

I hear you—insurance always feels like betting against yourself. I skipped accident forgiveness for years, figuring I’d just drive extra careful and pocket the savings. Then my neighbor got rear-ended at a stoplight and his rates shot up, even though it wasn’t his fault. Made me rethink things a bit, but I’m still rolling the dice for now. Guess it’s all about how much sleep you lose over “what ifs.”

I get that feeling, but I dug into the numbers for Ohio and it’s kind of a mixed bag. Accident forgiveness usually only covers your first at-fault accident, and it doesn’t help with not-at-fault claims like your neighbor’s. Statistically, most drivers go years without an accident, so if you’re a cautious driver, the extra premium might not be worth it. Still, if you’re risk-averse or just want peace of mind, it could make sense. Personally, I’m still weighing the odds...
