I totally get what you mean about “comprehensive” not always meaning what you think. I learned the hard way when my windshield cracked and it turned out my plan didn’t cover glass at all—just assumed it did. Has anyone ever actually used rental reimbursement? I always wonder if it’s worth adding or just another upcharge.

Rental reimbursement is one of those things I keep going back and forth on. I haven’t used it myself yet, but I can see how it would be a lifesaver if your car’s in the shop for a while. My cousin had her car in for repairs after a fender bender, and her policy covered a rental—she said it made things way less stressful. But on the flip side, I’ve heard some people say it’s not worth it if you have access to another car or public transport.

I’m still figuring out what’s “essential” and what’s just extra cost. Did anyone here ever regret skipping roadside assistance? I’m torn between adding that or rental reimbursement, but not sure which one comes in handy more often.

Honestly, I’d skip rental reimbursement unless you literally have no backup ride. If you’ve got a friend, roommate, or even a half-decent bus route, that extra monthly fee just eats your wallet. Roadside assistance, though? Way more useful. I’ve been stranded with a dead battery at 2am—AAA saved my bacon. Flat tire, lockout, whatever... it happens more than you think. Rental’s nice, but roadside is the real MVP for most folks.

Rental reimbursement is one of those things people don’t think about until they need it, but I get where you’re coming from. If you’ve got backup options, it’s probably not worth the extra cost. Roadside, though, is a lifesaver—jump starts, tows, even just unlocking your car when you’re in a rush. I’ve seen way more claims for roadside than rental, honestly. Just make sure you check what your policy actually covers—some roadside plans are pretty bare bones.

I’ve seen a lot of folks surprised by what their roadside actually covers—like, sometimes it’s just towing to the nearest shop, not your favorite mechanic across town. Ever had a claim denied because of those little details? It can be a headache if you’re not expecting it.
