Rising premiums for business vehicle fleets—anyone else notice this?

Yeah, it’s kind of ridiculous how much tech is crammed into what used to be just a mirror. I bumped into a mailbox during my first parking attempt (don’t judge), and the estimate for the “smart” mirror was more than my monthly rent. I get that all the sensors and cameras are supposed to keep us safer, but it feels like you need a computer science degree just to understand the repair bill.

Insurance is definitely catching on, too. My instructor was saying premiums are up because even tiny accidents mean expensive fixes now. Makes me nervous every time I pull into a tight spot—like, am I about to bankrupt myself over a curb rash? Progress is cool and all, but my wallet kinda misses the old days...

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. The cost to fix even a tiny scrape on these new mirrors is wild. I get that safety features are important, but sometimes it feels like we’re paying more for the tech than the actual car. My friend’s van needed a new sensor after a fender bender—took weeks and cost way more than expected. Makes me rethink how “smart” I want my next car to be...

I get the frustration, but honestly, I’m kind of glad the tech is there—even if it’s pricey to fix. I just bought my first policy and yeah, the premiums are up, but after seeing my cousin back into a pole and the sensors stopped a disaster, I’m not sure I’d want to go back to the “good old days.” Sure, the repairs sting, but maybe it’s cheaper than a full-on accident? Just wish the insurance companies would chill a bit on the rates...

Yeah, I hear you on the tech being a lifesaver sometimes. I’ve had those sensors save my bacon more than once, especially on long trips when I’m not as sharp. Still, it’s wild how much a tiny fender bender can cost now—like, one cracked sensor and suddenly you’re out a grand or more. I get that it’s probably cheaper than a big accident, but man, the insurance hikes sting. Wish there was some middle ground where we get the safety without feeling like we’re paying for a spaceship.

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. Last winter, my wife barely tapped a parking post and the rear sensor went kaput—$900 later, it was like nothing ever happened, except my wallet felt it for months. I appreciate the safety, but sometimes I wonder if we’re just trading one headache for another. It’s not like you can just ignore the tech either, since half the car starts beeping at you if something’s off. Feels like a bit of a trap, honestly.
