I get what you’re saying about local agents, but honestly, I haven’t noticed much difference. My last claim, the agent was super friendly but still couldn’t speed things up. It was all about the adjuster and the main office, not the local folks. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw, but I kinda think the company’s policies matter more than who you talk to in town. Wyoming weather definitely doesn’t help, though—hail season is just brutal.

That’s been my experience too—doesn’t matter how nice your agent is if the company drags its feet. When I had a windshield claim after a hailstorm, it took weeks just to get an answer. I’m starting to think it comes down to which companies actually have decent claims departments. Has anyone found a provider that actually moves fast when you’re dealing with high-value vehicles? Or is it just always a slog?

This is the part that gets me every time. Folks assume their local agent has some magic button to push, but honestly, once the claim’s in, it’s out of their hands. I’ve seen some agents really go to bat for their clients—calling adjusters, checking in with the claims department—but if the company’s got a backlog or just slow processes, there’s only so much they can do. And yeah, it seems like it gets even slower when you’re talking higher-value vehicles or specialty stuff.

I’ve noticed the bigger national companies talk a big game about “fast claims,” but when it comes down to it, you’re still at the mercy of their system. The local folks tend to care more, but they don’t have the authority to cut checks or make big decisions. Sometimes you get lucky and hit a smooth patch, but I’ve definitely had clients wait weeks for something that should’ve been wrapped up in a few days.

One weird thing: I’ve actually seen some of the smaller regional insurers move quicker on glass claims and minor stuff, maybe because they’re not swamped with volume? But then again, if it’s anything complicated—like a total loss or something with custom parts—it seems to slow down no matter who you’re with.

I wish there was a magic answer for “who treats you right,” but honestly, I think it comes down to how well-staffed their claims team is and how much authority they give their adjusters. Some companies let their adjusters make quick decisions out here in Wyoming because they know how spread out everything is. Others want everything rubber-stamped by someone in an office three states away.

And yeah, dealing with hail damage...that’s a whole different beast. Seems like every time there’s a big storm, all bets are off and everyone’s just waiting in line behind hundreds of other claims.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but sometimes having a relationship with your agent does help a little—at least they’ll keep you updated and push where they can. But at the end of the day, if the company moves slow, there’s not much anyone local can do except commiserate with you over coffee.

That’s been my experience too. My agent’s always been upfront about what she can and can’t do, which I appreciate. When I had a windshield claim last year, she called me just to let me know it was moving along, but the actual approval still took almost two weeks. Not her fault—just the company being slow.

Honestly, I’ve tried both big names and a smaller regional one here in WY. The smaller one was quicker on simple stuff, but when my truck got hail damage, it was a mess either way. Felt like I was just another number waiting in line.

I don’t really buy the “fast claims” pitch anymore. Now I just look for whoever gives me a fair rate and doesn’t jack up premiums after one claim. If something goes sideways, at least I’m not overpaying while I wait.

Yeah, I hear you on the “fast claims” thing—it’s mostly marketing fluff, at least in my experience. I keep a couple classic cars insured through a specialty company (not Hagerty, but similar), and for anything out of the ordinary, it’s like pulling teeth to get updates. Doesn’t matter if you’re best friends with your agent or not. Last year, I had a minor fender bender with my ‘72 Chevelle and it took almost a month just to get an adjuster out. My agent was nice enough, kept calling to check in, but at the end of the day, her hands were tied by the underwriters.

I’ve bounced between big names and local outfits too—never found one that really stands out when something goes wrong. The rates are what matter most to me now. If they’re gonna drag their feet either way, at least make it cheap while I wait. Maybe that’s cynical, but after a few decades of this, I’m not holding my breath for “VIP service.”
