I’ve looked into Metromile but worried about the customer service stories. Do you notice any weird charges or billing errors with them, or is it just slow responses?

I’ve been with Metromile for about a year now. Honestly, I haven’t run into any weird charges—my bills line up with my mileage, and the app’s pretty transparent. What I have noticed is the customer service can be hit or miss. Sometimes they’re quick, other times it feels like you’re shouting into the void. I had an issue after a minor accident (not my first, unfortunately), and it took a while to get a straight answer. No billing errors though, which was my main concern after reading some reviews.

If you drive a lot, it might not be worth it, but for me—since I’m not on the road much these days—it’s saved me some cash. Just be ready for slower email replies if something goes sideways.

I’ve actually been using Metromile for about three years now, and I’d echo most of what you’re saying. The billing has always matched up with my actual mileage—never spotted any odd fees or unexplained charges, which was a relief since I’m pretty meticulous about checking statements. The app’s interface is straightforward, though it can lag sometimes when updating recent trips.

Customer service is where things get a bit dicey. I had to file a claim after a fender bender last winter, and getting updates was like pulling teeth. Took almost two weeks to get a clear timeline on repairs. Not the worst experience I’ve had with insurance, but definitely not the best either. If you’re someone who values quick responses, it might be frustrating.

For me, since I work from home and barely drive these days, the savings outweigh the occasional hassle. But if you’re on the road a lot or want white-glove service, it might not be the best fit. Just my two cents—your mileage may vary (pun intended).

I’ve been with Metromile for a while too, and honestly, the savings are hard to beat if you’re not driving much. The app’s quirks don’t bother me much, but I can see how it’d get old if you’re checking it all the time. For folks who rack up miles or want super fast responses, yeah, probably not ideal. But for us homebodies, it does the trick.

Ha, that’s the truth. I joke with my clients that insurance time is like dog years—everything takes a bit longer than you’d expect. Metromile’s good for folks who barely drive, but I’ve seen some people surprised when their rates spike after a few road trips. Gotta keep an eye on those odometers...
