Honestly, I’ve always been a little skeptical about relying on UMPD. I looked into it once, but in my state it’s not even an option, so I just stick with a higher deductible on my collision to keep premiums down. Plus, from what I’ve heard, some insurers make you jump through hoops to prove the other driver was uninsured before they’ll pay out. Not saying it’s useless, but sometimes it feels like more hassle than it’s worth...

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from—UMPD can feel like a bit of a maze, especially depending on your state. Some places don’t even offer it, which is wild considering how many folks drive around without insurance. Have you ever actually had to file a claim with just collision? Sometimes the deductible trade-off makes sense, but I’ve seen people get burned when the other driver vanishes or just flat-out lies about having coverage.

The “prove they’re uninsured” part is definitely a pain. I’ve seen cases where it takes weeks to get all the paperwork sorted, and meanwhile your car’s just sitting there. Ever wonder why they can’t just check a database or something? Feels like we’re still in the stone age with some of this stuff...

Curious—do you ever worry about hit-and-runs? That’s the scenario that always makes me nervous, since UMPD usually covers that too. Or do you just cross your fingers and hope for the best?

- Just bought my first policy and honestly, the UMPD thing confused me too.
- My agent said it’s optional here, but after hearing about hit-and-runs from friends, I added it anyway.
- The paperwork sounds like a nightmare if you actually need it, though.
- Kinda wild that there’s no easy system to check if someone’s uninsured—feels like tech should’ve solved this by now.
- I do worry about hit-and-runs, especially since my street’s had a few lately. Guess I’d rather pay a bit extra than risk getting stuck with the bill.

- Honestly, I get why people add UMPD, but I’ve never bothered with it.
- Been driving for 20+ years, and in my experience, the odds of actually needing it are lower than folks think—unless you’re in a high-risk area.
- The paperwork is a pain, but what really gets me is how slow the payout can be. My neighbor went through it after a hit-and-run and waited months for reimbursement.
- I’d rather put that extra money toward a slightly higher deductible or just keep a small emergency fund for stuff like this.
- Not saying it’s useless, but sometimes these add-ons feel like they prey on our fears more than anything else.
- Guess it comes down to your comfort level and how much risk you’re willing to take on. For me, I’d rather not pay for something I’ll probably never use... but I totally get why others do.

- I hear you on the payout delays—claims can drag, especially with hit-and-runs.
- But I’ve seen some folks get stuck with thousands in repairs when the other driver vanishes or has nothing.
- Curious, has anyone here actually had to pay out of pocket after an uninsured driver hit them? Or did your regular collision cover it?
