I get where you’re coming from—my insurance’s roadside help is basically just a glorified phone number unless I break down within walking distance of my house. AAA did come through for me once when my car died on a road trip, way out in the sticks. They towed me like 40 miles, no extra charge. That said, if you mostly stick close to home, it might not be worth the extra cash. But man, that one time it worked out really made me a believer...

That’s interesting—never had AAA myself, but I’ve heard stories like yours. Ever had them help with something besides towing, like a dead battery or locked keys? I wonder if they’re as reliable for the smaller stuff as they are for big tows.

- Had AAA for years, and honestly, I’ve used them way more for “dumb” stuff than actual breakdowns.
- Dead battery? They come out and jump it—usually within 30-45 minutes, which is better than I’d get from my insurance’s roadside plan (tried that once, waited over an hour).
- Locked my keys in the car at a car show once (embarrassing). AAA sent a guy who had the door open in about two minutes. Didn’t even make fun of me.
- Tire change is another one. Had a flat in the rain, and they handled it—no drama. Felt like a pit crew… except slower.
- Only negative: sometimes the wait drags on if it’s a busy weekend or bad weather. But that seems true for any service.
- Insurance company’s roadside always feels like you’re rolling the dice on who shows up. With AAA, I just trust their process more.

For the smaller stuff, I’d say AAA is just as solid as they are for towing—maybe even better since you don’t need a flatbed and a parade of flares.

I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve seen insurance roadside plans step up, too. Sometimes it’s just about who’s contracted in your area. The “rolling the dice” thing—

—can go both ways. I’ve had AAA send out a local tow that took forever once. Guess it just depends on luck and location.

Honestly, I’ve had both AAA and my insurance leave me hanging before. Here’s what I do now: check which one covers what, see who’s faster in my area (call around if you have to), and save both numbers. Don’t just assume one’s always better. Sometimes it’s just whoever picks up the phone first.
