I used to think carrying extra gear was overkill, but after sitting on the shoulder for two hours waiting for a jump, I caved and bought a portable starter.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I just signed up for my first roadside plan and I’m already second-guessing it after reading stuff like this.

- That “fine print” always gets me nervous too.
- Portable starter seems smart, honestly.
- I keep wondering why cars don’t just come with basic emergency stuff built in… feels like it’d save everyone a headache.

Guess it’s all about having a backup plan, even if you hope you never need it.

- Been there, done that—waiting for roadside can be a total time sink.
- Portable starter's been a solid investment for me, especially since jump fees add up fast.
- I keep a cheap gas can and basic toolkit in the trunk too. Not glamorous, but it's saved my butt more than once.
- Honestly, car makers could toss in a few essentials and it wouldn't break the bank... but then they'd probably just charge extra anyway.
