I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s wild how even a tiny fender bender can send your rates through the roof. I used to think accident forgiveness was just another upsell, but after my neighbor’s premium spiked over a minor scrape, I started reconsidering. Does anyone know if all Ohio insurers offer it, or is it mostly the big names? I wonder if it’s different for folks with long clean records versus newer drivers.

Funny enough, I used to roll my eyes at accident forgiveness too—until my cousin rear-ended someone at a stoplight and his rate nearly doubled. In Ohio, it’s mostly the bigger companies that offer it, but not all of them do, and the rules can be weird. Some only let you have it if you’ve been with them for years, or if you’ve got a spotless record. Newer drivers usually get less leeway, which seems a bit harsh, honestly. It’s worth asking your agent directly since the fine print can be all over the place.

I’ve been going back and forth on this myself since I just started shopping for insurance. The accident forgiveness thing seemed like a “nice to have” until my friend’s fender bender turned into a $600/year increase. Makes me nervous, honestly. I asked a couple agents and got different answers—one said I’d need five years with no claims, another said three. Seems like it’s not just about paying extra, but also jumping through hoops. Still debating if it’s worth the peace of mind or if I should just drive extra carefully and hope for the best...

Honestly, I get the “peace of mind” angle, but I’m not convinced it’s worth the extra cash.

That’s exactly it. My cousin paid for accident forgiveness for years, then when he actually needed it, they said he didn’t qualify because of some technicality. He was furious. I’d rather just focus on not screwing up behind the wheel and save the money, but maybe that’s just me being stubborn.

Yeah, that’s the part that bugs me—paying for something and then getting hit with a “sorry, you don’t qualify” when it actually matters.

Makes me wonder how often that actually happens. Has anyone here actually had accident forgiveness work out in their favor, or is it mostly just a marketing thing? I’d rather stash the extra cash in my emergency fund, honestly.
