I’m one of those people who’s had more than my fair share of “oops” moments behind the wheel—nothing major, but enough to know Ohio insurance rates don’t mess around. I used to think accident forgiveness was just another way for companies to squeeze a few extra bucks out of me, but after my third fender bender (yeah, I know…), that little add-on saved me from a rate hike that would’ve made me cry. If you drive like me—let’s say, “not always perfect”—it’s worth it just for the stress relief. Otherwise, yeah, probably not for everyone.

Not sure I’m totally on board with paying extra for accident forgiveness, at least not for everyone. I get what you’re saying—

that little add-on saved me from a rate hike that would’ve made me cry
—but honestly, I’ve always looked at it like a bit of a gamble. If you’re someone who’s had a few close calls or fender benders, maybe it’s worth it. But for folks who drive older cars (like my ‘88 Cutlass), and don’t rack up a ton of miles, the math doesn’t always add up.

I’ve had my share of parking lot scrapes, but I usually just pay out of pocket for the little stuff. The premium hike from a claim would cost me more in the long run than just fixing a dent myself. Plus, some companies only “forgive” your first accident, and after that, you’re back to square one anyway. I’d rather stash that extra cash in my glovebox for emergencies. Just my two cents—guess it depends on how lucky (or unlucky) you feel behind the wheel.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve got a beater myself, and honestly, I’d rather risk a little scratch than pay extra every month. Feels like insurance companies are betting on us being unlucky, right? Sometimes DIY fixes just make more sense.

I totally get the “DIY fixes just make more sense” vibe. Here’s how it usually goes for me: Step 1, notice new scratch on my old Civic. Step 2, stare at it and try to remember if that was there yesterday. Step 3, shrug and hit it with a Sharpie. Repeat as needed.

But about accident forgiveness in Ohio—yeah, I’ve wondered if it’s worth the extra cash. Like, I get why folks want the peace of mind, but for me, paying extra when my car barely makes it through the drive-thru feels off. My logic is: if I actually manage to total this thing, maybe insurance is doing me a favor? On the other hand, if you’ve got something newer (or you’re just super unlucky), maybe it’s not the worst idea.

Anyway, insurance always feels like a gamble. Sometimes I think they know I’m more likely to spill fries in my seat than get into an accident...

Honestly, I’m with you—my car’s worth about as much as a month of insurance anyway. I’d rather risk a rate hike than pay extra for forgiveness I’ll probably never use. Plus, my luck’s usually just bad enough to get parking lot dings, not full-on accidents...
