Exactly. Had a similar situation last year—a client debated accident forgiveness, decided to skip it, and then their teen rear-ended someone two months later. Premium jumped noticeably. It's definitely worth crunching the numbers carefully before deciding either way.

I get the logic behind accident forgiveness, but honestly, I'm still not entirely sold on it. A couple of years back, I looked into it when my insurance agent pitched it pretty hard. At first glance, it seemed like a no-brainer, but then I started running the numbers myself. Turned out I'd have to pay extra every month, and when I added it up over a few years, it wasn't exactly pocket change.

Funny thing is, I've been driving for almost two decades without a single accident (knock on wood...). So for me personally, the math didn't really add up. Sure, there's always that risk—especially if you've got a teen driver—but sometimes I wonder if it's just another upsell tactic from insurance companies preying on our fears.

Not saying it's never worth it, just that it's probably not as clear-cut as some folks make it sound. Guess it depends on your driving history and how comfortable you are rolling the dice.

I'm actually glad you brought this up because I just went through the whole insurance shopping experience myself. As a first-time buyer, they really pushed accident forgiveness hard on me too. At first, it sounded comforting—like a safety net—but when I dug deeper, it felt more like paying extra for peace of mind I might never use.

Exactly this. I'm all for being cautious, but it felt like they were banking on me being paranoid about something that hasn't happened yet. Plus, when I ran the numbers, it didn't seem worth paying extra every month for something that might never pay off. I'd rather stash that cash away in savings and have it handy if something does happen.

Maybe if my driving record wasn't clean or if I had a teen driver in the house, I'd feel differently...but right now, accident forgiveness just seems like an expensive "what if."

- Totally agree with your take on this. I've been driving for over 15 years in Ohio, clean record, and never opted for accident forgiveness.
- Did the math myself a few years back and realized I'd be paying hundreds extra over time for something I might never use.
- Curious though, has anyone here actually used their accident forgiveness? Did it genuinely save you money or was it more hassle than it's worth?

I've never opted for accident forgiveness either, mostly because I'm cheap and skeptical by nature, lol. But my brother-in-law swears by it—he rear-ended someone a couple years back (nothing major, thankfully), and he claims it saved him from a nasty premium hike. Then again, he's also the guy who buys extended warranties on everything from toasters to lawn chairs...so take that with a grain of salt.

Makes me wonder though, is accident forgiveness more beneficial for certain types of drivers or vehicles? Like maybe it's worth it if you're commuting daily in heavy traffic versus just weekend cruising around town.
