Would you risk a higher deductible to lower your insurance bill?

I get where you’re coming from—random stuff just happens sometimes, no matter how careful you are. Squirrels, hailstorms, that one time a shopping cart rolled into my bumper while I was inside the store for five minutes... It’s like the universe has a sense of humor. I’ve always leaned toward higher deductibles because, honestly, I’d rather keep more money in my pocket month to month and just cross my fingers nothing major happens. But every time I hear stories like yours, I start second-guessing if it’s worth the risk.

Do you ever think about switching back to a lower deductible when your luck seems especially bad? Or is it just not worth the extra cost for you anymore? I keep wondering if there’s some sweet spot between saving cash and not stressing out every time something weird happens to my car.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, with a luxury car, I just can’t risk it. Repairs aren’t cheap—one minor scrape and you’re already looking at a bill that’s way over most high deductibles. I tried the “save on premiums” route for a while, but after a cracked windshield set me back more than I’d saved, I switched to a lower deductible. It stings paying more each month, but the peace of mind is worth it for me. There’s definitely a sweet spot, but for higher-end cars, it’s usually closer to the lower deductible side... at least in my experience.

That’s the thing with luxury cars, right? Parts and labor are just on another level. I get wanting peace of mind, but I’ve always wondered—do you ever factor in how often you actually file claims? I drive a ‘72 Chevelle and honestly, I’d rather risk the higher deductible since I barely take it out except for shows. But if you’re daily driving, yeah, I can see why you’d want the lower one. Just feels like insurance companies always win either way...

I totally get where you’re coming from. For me, with two kids and a minivan that’s in and out of parking lots all week, I’d rather pay a bit more each month than get slammed with a huge bill after some random fender bender. Those “rare” claims seem to happen at the worst times...

I hear you—those surprise repair bills can really sting. I drive a sedan that’s, honestly, a bit of a magnet for door dings and random scratches (city parking, what can you do?). I’ve thought about raising my deductible to save a few bucks, but then I think… what if someone bumps into me in a tight garage or a shopping center? Would I actually want to shell out $1,000+ just to get my bumper fixed? Sometimes I wonder if the peace of mind is worth the extra monthly cost. Do you ever feel like the “savings” don’t really add up when you factor in the stress?
