Was just thinking about this today—say you're driving cross-country, and you have liability coverage that's perfectly fine in your home state, but then you get into an accident somewhere else where their minimum limits are higher... um, does your insurance automatically adjust or are you stuck paying the difference?

Pretty sure your insurance automatically bumps up to match the minimum limits of whatever state you're driving in. I remember asking my agent about this exact thing when I bought my first policy (I was paranoid about road trips, lol). She said most policies have a clause that covers you if another state's minimums are higher, so you're not left hanging. Still, might wanna double-check your own policy wording just to be safe... insurance companies can be sneaky sometimes.

Yeah, that's usually how it works. I drive across state lines pretty often for work, and my agent said the same thing. But honestly, I'd still glance at your policy wording—insurance companies love their fine print, and you never know when they'll pull a fast one...
