Saw this news story yesterday about a guy whose car got totaled by a falling tree branch during a storm. He had comprehensive coverage, but his deductible was set super high to save on monthly premiums. Ended up paying a big chunk out of pocket, and now he's regretting it big time. Got me thinking...I mean, I always just picked a deductible kinda randomly, you know, not too high, not too low, just somewhere in the middle. But now I'm wondering if there's like a smarter way to figure this out.

I get that higher deductibles mean lower premiums, but then you're stuck paying more if something actually happens. And lower deductibles feel safer, but then you're paying more every month for something you might never even use. Feels like gambling either way, lol.

Curious how other people here decide on their deductible amount. Do you crunch numbers or just wing it?
