Yeah, I totally get that logic. Honestly, the first time I had to pay a $1,000 deductible, it felt like someone had just mugged my savings account. I remember backing out of a grocery store parking lot (with three kids arguing in the back about who got the last granola bar), and bam—scraped the whole side on a badly-parked cart corral. Insurance covered most of it, but writing that check for the deductible still stung.

Since then, I’ve kept mine on the lower side too. Sure, my premiums are a bit higher, but at least I know I won’t be scrambling if something happens. With school drop-offs and weekend soccer runs, my car’s basically a moving target anyway. I know some people can swing a bigger deductible and save month to month, but for me, peace of mind wins out—especially with how unpredictable life gets with kids and parking lots.

Man, parking lots are basically obstacle courses, right? I swear, every time I think I’ve got my deductible thing figured out, someone opens their door into my car or a rogue shopping cart appears out of nowhere. I tried the higher deductible route once to save a few bucks on premiums, but when my teenage son “borrowed” the car and clipped a mailbox, that savings vanished real quick. Do you ever feel like no matter which way you go, there’s always some surprise waiting around the corner?

I hear you—parking lots are wild. When I picked my deductible, I actually sat down and looked at my emergency fund first. If I couldn’t cover a $1,000 hit without stressing, I dropped it back down. Do you factor in your savings or just roll the dice?

Honestly, I just stared at the numbers for a while and hoped for the best. My savings aren’t exactly impressive, so I went with the lower deductible too. It’s stressful enough when stuff happens—no need to make it worse.

Been there, done that—math-induced panic is real. I always ask myself, “If my car got dinged tomorrow, could I cough up the deductible without eating ramen for a month?” Ever tried running the numbers for a higher deductible just to see if the premium drop is actually worth it? Sometimes it’s less than you’d think...
