Yeah, that deductible gamble is always a headache, especially if you’ve got something pricey sitting in your garage. I’ve been down the “save $20 a month but risk a $2k hit” road and honestly, it’s not worth the stress for me. If you’re driving something you actually care about, why risk it? One fender bender and suddenly those savings look pretty small.

Bundling’s never worked out for me either—barely made a dent, just like you said. Pay-per-mile is interesting, but those minimums can be sneaky. I barely drive my car some months and still end up paying more than I’d expect. Ever notice how the “base fee” is almost as much as a regular policy?

You’re spot on with the math—if the numbers don’t make sense, why bother? At the end of the day, peace of mind is worth something too. Don’t let the insurance companies nickel-and-dime you into thinking you’re getting a deal when you’re actually not.

- Been on both sides of that deductible debate—seen folks save a bit, then get hit with a repair bill that wipes out years of “savings.”
- Had a guy last month who thought his $2k deductible was smart until a deer totaled his car. He was not thrilled.
- Bundling’s weird, right? Sometimes it’s a couple bucks, sometimes nothing. I’ve never seen it make a huge difference unless you’ve got like five policies.
- Pay-per-mile is clever marketing, but yeah, those base fees are sneaky. You think you’re saving, but the math rarely works unless you barely drive at all.
- At the end of the day, I’d rather pay a little more and not stress every time I park somewhere sketchy. Peace of mind’s underrated.

I’ve always wondered if those high deductibles are really worth it in the long run. Like, sure, you save a bit each month, but one bad day and it’s all gone. Has anyone actually come out ahead with pay-per-mile? I drive a fair amount for work, so I’m skeptical it’d help me much.

Yeah, that’s the catch with pay-per-mile. If you’re on the road a lot, the savings usually aren’t there—sometimes it even costs more than a standard policy. High deductibles are a gamble too. You save monthly, but one accident and you’re paying big out of pocket. It really comes down to your risk tolerance and driving habits. Some folks swear by it, but for daily commuters, I’m not convinced it’s the best deal.

Pay-per-mile sounded great until I did the math on my commute. Between work and shuttling kids, my mileage is way up there, so those “savings” disappeared quick. Here’s how I looked at it: 1) Calculate your average monthly miles, 2) Compare that to the per-mile rate, and 3) Factor in the deductible if something goes wrong. For me, the numbers just didn’t add up. Maybe if I worked from home… but until then, I’m sticking with the boring old policy.
