- Totally get where you’re coming from. My old ‘72 Chevelle got flagged for “rapid acceleration” once—except I was just trying to merge ahead of a herd of mule deer at dusk.
- These trackers seem to ignore the reality out here. City algorithms don’t get Wyoming roads, plain and simple.
- Tried explaining it to my agent once. She just read off what the computer said and shrugged. Not much help.
- I’d love to see an insurance company actually factor in wildlife dodges as skill, not recklessness. Until then, guess we keep racking up “aggressive” points for saving bumpers... and elk.

- Been there with my ‘69 Charger—one “hard brake” to avoid a pronghorn and suddenly I’m a menace, according to the tracker.
- Honestly, these systems feel like they’re built for folks dodging traffic, not wildlife.
- I get that insurance companies want data, but it’s like they’ve never driven outside a city.
- Wouldn’t mind if they actually looked at dashcam footage or something before dinging us for “aggressive” moves.
- Until then, guess we just keep racking up points for not turning deer into hood ornaments...

That’s exactly it. Most of these trackers just don’t get rural driving at all. I’ve had State Farm’s Drive Safe & Save ding me for “hard braking” when I slowed for a herd of elk—like, what else was I supposed to do? Progressive was a bit better, but still not great. I’ve heard some folks have luck with smaller regional companies that actually know Wyoming roads, but the big guys mostly just look at the numbers. Dashcam footage would make a world of difference, but I doubt they’ll bother unless enough people push for it.

I’ve had the same issue—got marked down for “aggressive steering” when I swerved to avoid a deer at dusk. What do they expect, just plow through? These apps don’t get how unpredictable rural roads are. Has anyone actually seen an insurance company use dashcam footage to fix this?

Had a similar thing happen last winter—dodged a pronghorn that came out of nowhere, and my “safe driving” score tanked for a week. I’ve got a dashcam in my Range Rover, mostly for peace of mind, but when I tried to show the footage to my insurer, they just shrugged it off. Apparently, unless there’s an actual accident, they don’t care much. Honestly, these apps seem built for city traffic, not Wyoming wildlife roulette.
