I get the convenience angle, but I’m still uneasy about handing over that much data. Had a friend whose tracker glitched and flagged a bunch of “hard brakes” that never happened—his rates shot up until he fought it. Self-reporting’s a pain, sure, but at least you control what gets sent in. Guess it comes down to which hassle you’re willing to deal with.

I hear you on the data thing—it’s a little weird knowing my car’s tattling on me every time I brake for a squirrel. I tried Metromile for a bit since we don’t rack up a ton of miles (kids’ soccer and grocery runs, mostly). The tracker was mostly fine, but once it said I drove 200 miles in a day... when I barely left the neighborhood. Had to call support and explain I’m not running a taxi service. Honestly, I’d rather deal with a little paperwork than fight a robot over my driving habits.

That’s a common headache with mileage trackers—accuracy can be hit or miss, especially if GPS glitches out. I’ve seen a few clients have similar issues, not just with Metromile but other pay-per-mile setups too. The tech’s great when it works, but sometimes you spend more time fixing their mistakes than it’s worth. Traditional policies might be a bit more paperwork, but at least you know what you’re getting into. Honestly, unless you’re really driving super low miles, the savings don’t always add up after factoring in the hassle.

I hear you on the GPS weirdness—last year my tracker thought I’d driven 200 miles in a day, when all I did was run to the grocery store and back. Cue a week of emails trying to fix it. Honestly, I like the idea of paying for what I use, but sometimes the tech makes me nervous. I’m a careful driver, but I don’t want to babysit an app every trip. For now, sticking with my old-school policy feels less stressful, even if it’s not the cheapest option.

Totally get that. I tried Metromile for a bit and the app kept losing signal on road trips—super annoying. Has anyone found a company where the tech actually works smoothly? Or is it just hit or miss with all of them?
