So yesterday evening, someone sideswiped my parked car and just sped off. Didn't catch the plates or anything, and now I'm stuck dealing with repairs. A buddy mentioned something about uninsured motorist coverage maybe helping out in situations like this, but honestly, insurance stuff makes my head spin a bit. Has anyone been through something similar or know if this coverage actually helps when the other driver just disappears?

Yeah, uninsured motorist coverage can sometimes kick in for hit-and-run scenarios, but it really depends on your policy specifics and state laws. Did you already check your insurance documents or call your agent? A few years back, my neighbor had a similar issue—parked car got clipped overnight—and his uninsured motorist coverage ended up covering most of the repairs. Worth looking into carefully before paying out-of-pocket...

Definitely agree with this. Had a similar thing happen last summer—someone sideswiped my parked car and vanished. Thought I'd have to eat the cost myself, but uninsured motorist coverage saved me a good chunk of change. Policies vary though, so double-check your paperwork or give your agent a quick call. Better safe than sorry, especially if you're watching your budget like me...

Had something similar happen a while back—thought uninsured motorist would cover it, but turns out my policy didn't include hit-and-runs. Definitely worth calling your agent first... insurance fine print can be sneaky sometimes. Saved me from an unpleasant surprise later.
