Insurance paid way less than what it cost me to replace my roof

I get where you’re coming from, but it’s not always about the company trying to dodge responsibility. Adjusters have to follow pretty strict guidelines, and sometimes they genuinely can’t tell what’s new damage versus old without documentation. It’s a pain, but I’ve seen cases where people actually got more than they should’ve because there was no proof either way. Taking photos is smart, but I wouldn’t say it’s all about them banking on us not fighting back. Sometimes it’s just the system being clunky and cautious.

Had a similar headache with my car after a hailstorm. Adjuster showed up, took a bunch of photos, and then told me half the dents were “pre-existing.” I argued, but without any real proof, it was just my word against theirs. Ended up getting way less than what the repairs actually cost me.

I get that they have rules to follow, but sometimes it feels like they’re just looking for reasons to pay out less. Not saying every adjuster is out to get you, but the system definitely isn’t set up in our favor. Now I take photos of everything—car, house, even my old bike—just in case. It’s a pain, but after getting burned once, I’m not risking it again.

Honestly, I think half the problem is just how slow and outdated their process is. Wouldn’t kill them to update things a bit...

Yeah, I’m with you on that. After my camper got sideswiped in a parking lot and the adjuster tried to chalk up the damage to “wear and tear,” I started documenting everything too. It’s a hassle, but I guess it beats being stuck with the bill. The process really does feel outdated... kind of wild how slow they still are, considering how much tech is out there now.

I totally get the frustration. I had a fender bender last year—barely a scratch, but the insurance company wanted like ten different photos and still tried to say it was “pre-existing.” Ever since, I take pics of my car every couple weeks, just in case. It’s kind of ridiculous how much proof you need these days. Has anyone actually had an adjuster accept their first set of photos without asking for more? Or is that just wishful thinking...

Never had an adjuster just take my first batch of photos, either. Last time, I sent over a dozen, and they still wanted close-ups from weird angles. It’s like they’re hoping you’ll give up. Your idea of regular pics is smart, though—I might start doing that myself.
