Insurance paid way less than what it cost me to replace my roof

Yeah, I hear ya. Had a similar run-in when my car got hail damage... their estimate barely covered half the repairs. Makes you wonder why we even pay premiums sometimes, lol.

I get the frustration, but honestly, adjusters aren't always out to shortchange us. Had a similar situation with my '69 Mustang after a minor fender benderβ€”initial estimate was way too low. But after I politely pushed back, provided some solid quotes from reputable classic car shops, and explained clearly why original parts mattered, they actually revised their offer significantly. Sometimes it's less about them intentionally being stingy and more about them not fully understanding the true value or specifics of the repairs needed. Classic cars, roofs, hail damage... each scenario has nuances that a quick glance might miss. Maybe the issue isn't always the adjuster trying to save money, but rather a lack of specialized knowledge or experience? Not saying every adjuster is a saint, but pushing back with clear evidence can sometimes make a real difference.

Had the same issue with hail damage on my WRX. Adjuster totally missed the cost difference between aluminum and steel panels. Once I sent over detailed shop estimates, they adjusted it pretty quickly... definitely more ignorance than malice.

Had a similar headache with my insurance when my roof got wrecked in a storm. At first, their estimate was way offβ€”like they were quoting prices from ten years ago or something. I ended up getting a couple of detailed quotes from local roofing companies and sent those in. Once they saw actual numbers from reputable places, they bumped their payout quite a bit.

Honestly, I don't think they're always trying to lowball intentionally (though some probably do...). Seems like a lot of adjusters just go by generic price sheets and don't realize how much materials and labor have actually jumped lately. Good on you for pushing back with real numbersβ€”it usually does the trick.

Yeah, that's pretty spot-on. Adjusters usually rely on standardized software that pulls from databases, and honestly, those numbers can lag behind realityβ€”especially lately with inflation and supply chain craziness. They're not always out to shortchange you intentionally, but they're definitely working off outdated info sometimes. Sending in actual quotes from local contractors is exactly the right move...makes their job easier too, since they have solid evidence to justify upping the payout. Glad it worked out for you!
