Would carrying roof-repair materials change my Texas auto insurance use?
Discussion options
I’m planning a personal roof repair on my own home and would use my personally owned vehicle to carry ladders, shingles, and tools. I wouldn’t be paid, and the work should last only a limited period, with trips to pick up materials as needed.
Could an insurer still treat that as business or commercial use because of the vehicle’s regular cargo, even though there’s no customer or outside employer involved? The answer may also depend on whether the vehicle is a pickup, SUV, or something else.
Has anyone dealt with this in Texas? I’m trying to determine whether I should disclose the use to my insurer, ask about an endorsement, or consider commercial coverage. The tools and materials would be mine for my own house, not a contractor’s property, but I don’t want to assume that automatically keeps the use within a personal auto policy.
