Had a “bargain” policy once when we were pinching pennies for a cross-country trip. Looked great on paper, but when a deer decided to play chicken with our van, the claims process was like pulling teeth. Took forever, and they tried to wiggle out of covering the rental. Ended up costing more in stress than the few bucks we saved. Now I still shop around, but I’m a lot more suspicious of anything that seems too cheap. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for...

I get where you’re coming from, but I’m not convinced paying top dollar always means better service. Had a “premium” policy on my ‘72 Chevelle—cost me a small fortune, and when I needed them, they still dragged their feet. Honestly, I think it’s more about reading the fine print and checking reviews than just price. Some of these companies bank on people assuming expensive equals hassle-free. Not always true in my experience.

Totally agree—price isn’t everything. I’ve seen “budget” insurers handle claims faster than the big names. For me, it’s all about reputation and how they treat you when things go sideways. Sometimes the flashy ads just mean higher premiums, not better service.

Honestly, I learned the hard way that “big name” doesn’t always mean better. My last claim with a well-known insurer took so long, I started wondering if they were mailing paperwork by carrier pigeon. I’d rather pay a bit less and get actual service when it matters. Those shiny ads don’t help much when your car’s in the shop, right?

I hear you. I used to think paying more for a “trusted” brand meant less hassle, but after my last accident, I spent weeks chasing them down just to get a straight answer. Meanwhile, my neighbor with a smaller company had her claim sorted in days. At this point, I don’t care about fancy commercials—if they can’t get me back on the road fast, what’s the point? I’d rather compare a few options than get stuck with slow service just because of a logo.
