Haha, I totally get what you're saying about the stale coffee and endless slideshows. But honestly, one thing from my defensive driving course actually stuck with me—checking mirrors more frequently. Sounds basic, right? Yet somehow, after years of commuting, I'd gotten into this lazy habit of barely glancing. The instructor kept drilling it into us until it became annoyingly memorable. Now I catch myself doing quick mirror checks almost subconsciously, especially in heavy traffic or when merging lanes.

I agree most of the course felt like common sense repackaged, but sometimes those little reminders do make a difference. Plus, can't deny that sweet insurance discount makes the stale coffee worth enduring...almost.

Funny you mention that—I had a similar wake-up call during my own defensive driving class. Thought I was pretty attentive until the instructor pointed out how rarely most drivers actually scan intersections properly. Step one: glance left, step two: glance right, step three: quick mirror check... sounded tedious at first, but now it's second nature. Guess those stale-coffee sessions aren't totally useless after all, huh?

Interesting you both mention intersections... honestly, how often do you find yourself zoning out at familiar stop signs or lights? I catch myself doing it way more than I'd like to admit, even after taking a refresher course.

Honestly, I get what you're saying about zoning out at familiar intersections, but for me it's actually the opposite. Ever since I got my new car (and trust me, the thing practically drives itself), I've become hyper-aware at stop signs and lights. Not because I'm some safety guru—far from it—but because the car has this annoying habit of beeping at me if it thinks I'm not paying attention.

Funny story: there's this one intersection near my house where the car always thinks I'm about to rear-end someone, even if there's literally no one there. So now, every time I approach it, I'm gripping the wheel like I'm piloting a spaceship through an asteroid field, just waiting for the beep. It's ridiculous, but hey, at least I'm not zoning out anymore. Maybe all we need is a little paranoia from our cars to keep us alert... who knew?

I totally get the paranoia thing. My car doesn't beep, but it has this flashing collision warning that pops up randomly. First time it happened, I slammed the brakes so hard my coffee flew everywhere—lesson learned. Now whenever I'm near that spot, I instinctively slow down and brace myself. Annoying, sure, but hey, fewer coffee stains and probably safer driving habits overall... guess that's a win?
