Honestly, I don’t even bother with the app anymore—tried that once, phone died, cop was not impressed. Now I just keep three paper copies: glove box, wallet, and one stuffed in the sun visor. Yeah, they get beat up, but at least one’s readable. Has anyone in SD actually gotten in trouble for a digital proof not loading? Curious if the rules are strict or if most cops just roll with it.
I’ve seen folks get flustered when their phone won’t load the insurance app—one guy I know ended up with a fix-it ticket just because the officer couldn’t verify on the spot. Paper copies might be old school, but they’re reliable when tech fails. I always wonder, though, if laminated cards are worth it or just overkill? Anyone tried that, or do they just end up lost like everything else in the car?
Paper copies might be old school, but they’re reliable when tech fails.
Totally agree with this. I keep a paper copy in the glove box just in case my phone decides to act up. Laminated cards aren’t overkill in my book—spilled coffee, leaky water bottles, or just general wear and tear can ruin regular paper fast. I’ve had one for years and it’s still readable. Only downside is if you’re like me and forget to swap it out when your policy renews... then it’s just a shiny outdated card floating around with the rest of the car clutter.
I’m with you on the laminated card—mine’s survived everything from a leaky thermos to a toddler with sticky hands. The only trick is actually remembering to swap it out when the new one comes in… which, yeah, doesn’t always happen. At least it beats digging through emails on the side of the road.
Yeah, swapping out the old card is the hardest part. I’ve definitely driven around with last year’s tucked in the visor more than once. At least the laminated ones hold up—paper ones just turn to mush in my glovebox.
