At least the laminated ones hold up—paper ones just turn to mush in my glovebox.

Yeah, I totally get that. I always worry about having the wrong card if I get pulled over. The paper ones are a pain, especially if you spill water or something. I try to swap them out right away, but sometimes I forget and then stress about it later. Laminated is definitely the way to go if you can.

- Totally hear you on the paper cards. Mine always end up looking like they've survived a hurricane after a few months in the glovebox.
- Laminating is smart, but I read somewhere that some states (maybe even SD?) want the original, not a copy. Anyone know if that's actually enforced? Feels like one of those rules nobody checks, but who knows.
- I started just snapping a pic on my phone as backup. Not sure if that's technically allowed, but at least I can prove I have insurance if the card's unreadable... or stuck to an old granola bar wrapper.
- Honestly, why can't they just let us use an app or something? It's 2024. My bank doesn't make me carry around a paper statement.
- Side note: does anyone else get those cards in the mail and immediately lose them under a pile of junk? Or is that just me...

Right? It’s wild that we’re still dealing with flimsy paper cards. I’ve shown a photo of mine during a traffic stop before and the officer didn’t care, but maybe I just got lucky. I always lose the originals too—glovebox is basically a black hole.

I hear you on the glovebox thing—mine’s a disaster zone. I tried keeping my insurance card in my wallet, but then I forget to put it back in the car. Honestly, digital proof just makes sense. Why are we stuck in the stone age with this stuff?

I totally get it—my glovebox is crammed with manuals and random receipts. But does South Dakota actually accept digital proof? I know some states do, but I’ve never tried it here. Anyone ever had a cop ask for insurance and just shown their phone? Wonder if they’d give you grief about it...
