Honestly, I’ve had better luck with my insurance’s roadside than AAA, weirdly enough. Here’s what I do: before I sign up for anything, I call and ask about every possible fee—after hours, towing distance, whatever. It’s a pain, but it’s saved me from surprise charges. Sometimes AAA’s “upfront” pricing still hides stuff in the fine print too... just gotta dig for it.

I get what you’re saying about the hidden fees—been burned by that with AAA before, too. But honestly, I still lean toward AAA just because their network seems bigger where I live. My insurance’s roadside left me hanging once when my van broke down late at night... took forever to get a tow. Maybe it depends on location? I do wish these companies would just be upfront about every single charge instead of making us play detective.

That’s exactly it—transparency is everything, especially when you’re already stressed on the side of the road. I’ve had AAA show up faster than my insurance once, but I always wonder: are they really sending someone who knows how to handle higher-end cars? Or just whoever’s closest? Hidden fees are annoying, but damage to the car would be worse for me. Anyone else worry about that?

- Totally agree, the lack of transparency is a pain, especially when you’re already stressed.
- I’ve had AAA send someone who seemed a bit out of their depth with my car’s electronics—made me nervous.
- Insurance roadside help sometimes outsources to random local tow guys, which isn’t always better.
- For higher-end cars, I’d rather pay extra for a specialty service than risk damage from someone inexperienced.
- Hidden fees are annoying, but surprise scratches or dings are worse...

I hear you on the scratches—nothing worse than seeing a new one on your pride and joy. I’ve had mixed luck with both AAA and insurance, honestly. For my old Mustang, I just stick with a local classic car tow guy. Costs a bit more, but at least I know he won’t mess up the trim or paint. Sometimes peace of mind is worth the extra bucks...
