I totally get the “just in case my luck runs out” feeling. I’ve actually locked my keys in the car twice in one week (don’t ask), and Progressive’s roadside didn’t bat an eye. But like you said,

“AAA was the only one who’d tow me 80 miles to civilization.”
That’s the kicker. Progressive is great for city stuff, but if you’re road-tripping or have a talent for getting lost like me, AAA’s longer tow range is a lifesaver. I’d say both is the way to go if you can swing it.

I’ve wondered about this too—Progressive’s roadside is solid for lockouts and flats, but their tow range is pretty limited. Ever tried getting them to tow an old car more than 15 miles? Not happening. AAA’s been my backup for years, just in case I break down somewhere remote. Guess it’s a bit of overkill, but with classics, you never know when something’s gonna give out...

Yeah, I hear you on the tow range—Progressive’s great for the basics, but if you’re driving something vintage, that 15-mile limit can be a dealbreaker. Honestly, keeping AAA as backup isn’t overkill at all. I’ve seen too many folks stranded because they thought “it’ll never happen to me.” Better safe than sorry, especially with classics.

That 15-mile tow cap really does sneak up on you, especially if you’re not in a metro area. I’ve run into that myself—ended up paying out of pocket for the last few miles to my mechanic. It’s a bit frustrating, since you’d think “roadside assistance” would cover more ground. I get why folks double up with AAA, but I do wonder if there’s a more cost-effective way to bridge that gap. Maybe some local shops offer their own tow programs? Just seems like there should be a better workaround for those of us trying to keep costs down.

That 15-mile cap really is a pain. I got stranded about 22 miles from my usual shop last winter—ended up riding shotgun in the tow truck, watching the meter tick up for every extra mile. Not exactly how I wanted to spend my Saturday. I’ve heard some local garages do offer their own tow deals, but it’s hit or miss. Honestly, I wish insurance companies would just let us pick a radius or something, even if it costs a couple bucks more per year. Feels like there’s gotta be a smarter way.
