Dashcams definitely have their limits, but I'd still rather have one than not. Even if the angle isn't perfect, wouldn't having some footage be better than relying only on memory or eyewitnesses? I get what you're saying about perspective issues, though—maybe it's worth investing in a better camera setup with multiple angles or something. Or at least checking the footage regularly to make sure it captures what you think it does. I'm pretty new to this whole insurance thing and still figuring stuff out, but seems like dashcams could save more headaches than they cause...right?

Dashcams are definitely helpful, but honestly, I'm not convinced they're always worth the investment—at least not for everyone. For instance, if you're budget-conscious like me, spending extra on a fancy multi-angle setup might seem appealing at first, but realistically, how often will you actually need that footage? In no-fault states especially, insurance companies often rely more heavily on police reports or official statements rather than dashcam footage. I had a friend who got rear-ended, and even though he had dashcam footage clearly showing the other driver at fault, his insurer barely glanced at it—they just processed the claim based on the standard procedures.

Sure, it might provide peace of mind, but regularly checking and maintaining multiple camera angles feels like an unnecessary hassle for most of us. I'd rather put that money toward something more immediately useful, like better tires or regular maintenance. Just my two cents...

Totally get where you're coming from... I once splurged on a dashcam setup for my classic Mustang—thought it'd be cool, felt like James Bond for about a week. Now it's mostly collecting dust. Better tires are definitely a wiser choice.

Dashcams aren't totally useless though... have you considered checking if your insurance offers discounts for having one installed? Might make that James Bond moment pay off a bit.

Dashcams can really come through sometimes... a buddy of mine had one installed and it totally saved him during an insurance dispute. Didn't even realize some companies gave discounts for having one, though—pretty cool tip. Might not be James Bond-level excitement, but hey, anything that eases insurance headaches is a win in my book.
