is accident forgiveness really worth it in Ohio?

I debated this myself a while back when I got my '72 Mustang insured. Accident forgiveness sounded tempting, but honestly, after crunching some numbers, it felt like paying extra for peace of mind I might never need. Ended up just stashing a bit each month into my "just-in-case" fund instead. Been lucky so far (knock on wood...), but at least that money's still mine if nothing happens. Might be worth considering if you're budget-conscious like me.

I get your logic, but honestly, accident forgiveness can be worth it if you're driving something pricey. Here's how I see it: first, check your car's value and repair costs—luxury cars aren't cheap to fix. Next, consider your driving habits and local traffic (Ohio winters aren't exactly forgiving...). Finally, weigh the premium increase after an accident versus the extra monthly cost. For me, paying a bit more upfront beats dealing with a massive rate hike later. But hey, if you're confident in your driving and disciplined enough to save regularly, your method could work too.

Good points about luxury cars and winter driving conditions—those Ohio roads can definitely get dicey. But here's something else to think about: have you looked into how accident forgiveness actually impacts your long-term insurance record? Some insurers might forgive the first accident, sure... but does that forgiven accident still show up if you switch companies later on? I've seen cases where people thought they were in the clear, only to find out their "forgiven" accident still counted against them when shopping around for new coverage.

Also, curious if anyone's compared how different insurers handle accident forgiveness policies. Are there major differences in terms of what's covered or how quickly premiums reset after an accident? Seems like a detail worth checking before deciding if it's really worth the extra monthly cost.

That's a really good point about forgiven accidents still lingering on your record. Makes me wonder—does accident forgiveness typically cover all types of accidents equally, or are there exceptions like weather-related incidents (thinking about those icy Ohio roads...)? I've heard some insurers might treat certain scenarios differently, even if they're technically "forgiven." Would be interesting to know if anyone's run into that kind of fine print before committing to the extra cost.

Usually, accident forgiveness covers most typical scenarios, including weather-related stuff like sliding on ice. But you're right—there can be sneaky exceptions buried in the fine print. Definitely worth double-checking with your insurer before shelling out extra cash.
