Had accident forgiveness on my policy when my daughter got her license—figured it’d be a waste. Two months in, she taps a mailbox during a snow squall. Insurance didn’t budge our rate. Without it, our premium would’ve shot up way more than what we paid for the forgiveness add-on. For me, it was worth every penny, but I get why some folks skip it if they’ve got spotless records.

Honestly, I used to think accident forgiveness was just another way for insurance to grab more cash, but after starting lessons, I’m seeing the appeal. Here’s how I look at it:

- New drivers (like me) are just more likely to mess up, even if it’s something minor.
- One small bump can make your rates jump for years.
- The extra cost isn’t crazy compared to how much a premium hike hurts.

I get skipping it if you’ve never had a ticket or fender bender, but for families with teens behind the wheel? It’s like a safety net. Not everyone needs it, but I’d rather have that backup than stress over every little mistake.

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from—my oldest just started driving and it’s nerve-wracking. But I still kinda side-eye accident forgiveness. Here’s why:

- It feels like paying for something you hope you’ll never use.
- Insurance companies aren’t exactly known for giving away free perks.
- That said, one fender bender and your rates go nuts... so maybe it’s worth it if you’ve got teens.

I guess if your household has a “serial bumper-tapper,” it could save you some headaches. For us, I’m still on the fence, but leaning toward it just for peace of mind.

Isn’t it wild how you’re basically betting against your own luck? I’ve had accident forgiveness for years and—knock on wood—never used it, but I keep renewing just in case my parallel parking karma runs out. But yeah, the idea of paying extra for “maybe” coverage does feel a bit like buying an umbrella in the desert. Then again, with two kids learning to drive, suddenly every mailbox looks like a potential claim...

I get what you mean about paying for “maybe” coverage. I used to think accident forgiveness was just another way for insurance to squeeze a few more bucks out of me. But with teenagers in the car now, I’m way less confident in my luck holding out. It’s like, yeah, it feels silly until you actually need it... then you’re glad you had it.
