insurance feels like a game of “gotcha” sometimes

Yeah, that’s about right. I’ve had accident forgiveness for a couple years, but honestly, it didn’t help much when a deer totaled my old Civic last fall. The adjuster said it only covers at-fault stuff, not “acts of nature.” Do any companies actually count deer hits as accidents you can forgive? Or is that just wishful thinking out here in rural Ohio...

Yeah, that’s the catch—accident forgiveness is really just for at-fault stuff. Deer hits are usually comprehensive claims, not collision, so they don’t count against you the same way. I’ve never heard of a company forgiving those, honestly. Out here, it feels like dodging wildlife is just part of driving...

Right? I always joke that my commute is more Frogger than freeway. But yeah, accident forgiveness usually skips over those deer hits since they’re comprehensive. Do you feel like the extra premium for forgiveness is worth it if most claims are animal-related? Or do you see more at-fault stuff where you drive?

Honestly, I’ve had more close calls with other drivers than deer, but maybe that’s just my luck. Last year, I rear-ended someone in stop-and-go traffic—total at-fault. Accident forgiveness saved my butt on premiums. For me, it’s been worth it, but if you’re mostly dodging wildlife, I get why you’d question it.

I’ve seen a lot of folks in Ohio think they’ll never need accident forgiveness until, well, they do. My neighbor thought the same—he was all about avoiding deer, not other cars. Then he slid into a mailbox during an icy morning commute. No one hurt, but his rates jumped since he didn’t have forgiveness. If you drive in city traffic or deal with unpredictable weather, it’s worth weighing the cost versus that one “oops” moment. Sometimes it’s not about how careful you are, but how unpredictable the roads can get.
