- Had the same experience—SR-22 sounded like a spaceship to me at first.
- Local agent actually drew a diagram on a sticky note for me... way less intimidating than trying to decode insurance jargon online.
- But, I did notice the online quotes were sometimes cheaper? Still, I’d rather pay a few bucks more and not stress about missing something important.
- Not sure if it’s “better,” but I trust myself more when someone’s double-checking my forms in person.
- Anyone else feel like online forms are just waiting for you to mess up?

Title: Which is better for SR-22 in ND: local agents or online companies?

Anyone else feel like online forms are just waiting for you to mess up?

Honestly, I get the worry, but I’ve had the opposite experience. I went with an online company for my SR-22 after a DUI, and it was actually pretty straightforward—just had to double-check everything before submitting. Saved me about $200 a year compared to what the local agent quoted. I get that face-to-face feels safer, but if you’re careful and read the fine print, online isn’t as risky as it seems. Plus, you can compare way more options in less time.

I get the appeal of online—faster, cheaper, more options. But after my last car (an M5) got dinged up and the claim process turned into a nightmare, I’m a bit wary of faceless companies. Local agents might cost more, but at least you know who to yell at if something goes sideways. Maybe I’m just old school, but peace of mind counts for something...

I totally get where you’re coming from. After dealing with an SR-22 myself a few years back, I went with a local agent just for that reason—having someone to talk to face-to-face when things got complicated. Online quotes looked tempting, but I worried about getting lost in the shuffle if something went wrong. Maybe it’s not the cheapest route, but for me, knowing there’s a real person on the other end is worth the extra bucks. Peace of mind isn’t overrated, especially with something as stressful as SR-22s.

I hear you on the peace of mind thing. When I had to get an SR-22 after a fender bender (my minivan vs. a mailbox... mailbox won), I started with the online route because, honestly, I thought it’d be faster and cheaper. And it was—at first. But when the paperwork got messed up and the DMV said they never got my form, I spent hours on hold with some call center that kept transferring me around. Not fun.

Ended up switching to a local agent after that headache. Yeah, it cost a bit more, but when I had questions, I could just pop in or call and get a straight answer. I guess if you never run into issues, online might be fine, but for me, the “real person” factor saved my sanity. Sometimes you just want to talk to someone who knows your name and isn’t reading from a script, you know?
