"Makes me wonder, has anyone here actually faced delays or issues getting paid by a smaller insurer after a big claim?"

Yeah, I had a minor fender-bender last year and was with a small local insurer to save some cash. They handled the claim pretty quickly, honestly, but I did notice they were super particular about documentation and details—felt like they were double-checking everything. Didn't face any major delays myself, but I could see how a bigger claim might slow things down...especially if they're tight on funds. Guess it's a trade-off between cost and peace of mind.

I've never had a huge claim myself, but my brother-in-law did, and he was with a smaller insurer at the time. His experience wasn't terrible, but it wasn't exactly smooth sailing either. They were pretty thorough—almost annoyingly so—with paperwork and follow-ups. It took him a couple extra weeks to get everything sorted compared to when I had a claim with one of the bigger companies. He joked that he felt like he was being audited by the IRS instead of filing an insurance claim, haha.

Honestly, I think smaller insurers just have less room for error financially, so they're naturally more cautious. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you're the type who prefers less hassle and quicker turnaround when things go sideways, sticking with a bigger name might be worth the extra bucks. Just my two cents...

Yeah, smaller insurers definitely put you through the wringer if you're high-risk—been there myself. Had a fender-bender last year and felt like I was submitting a college thesis, lol. Bigger companies usually just cut the check faster, less hoops to jump through.

Interesting take, but do you really think bigger insurers always make it easier? I've had mixed experiences myself. Had a minor scrape last year—nothing major, just a parking lot mishap—but even with a big-name insurer, I felt like they were trying to nickel-and-dime me on the repairs. Sure, the check came quicker, but it didn't exactly cover the full cost of the dealership's estimate. Ended up having to haggle back and forth for a week or two, which was pretty annoying.

I guess my question is, does going with a bigger company always mean fewer headaches, or is it more about the specific policy details and coverage limits you choose? I've always been budget-conscious (yeah, even with a luxury car—gotta save somewhere, right?), so I'm wondering if maybe paying a bit more upfront for better coverage would save me from these hassles down the line. Or is it just luck of the draw?

Also, has anyone noticed if certain luxury brands tend to trigger more scrutiny from insurers? I swear, sometimes it feels like just mentioning my car model makes the adjuster's eyebrows shoot up, lol. Curious if that's just me being paranoid or if there's some truth to it...

I've had similar experiences—big insurers aren't always the smooth ride you'd expect. It seems to me it's less about company size and more about how clear your policy is upfront. I've noticed that specific endorsements or riders sometimes make claims smoother, even if they cost a bit extra. Also, regarding luxury brands... I drive a pretty standard family SUV, but my brother-in-law swears his premium sedan draws extra attention from adjusters. Maybe insurers assume pricier cars mean pricier repairs?
