"Do smaller companies hold up as well if there's a bigger claim involved, like something serious? That's always been my worry."

That's a valid concern... but from my experience, smaller insurers can actually be pretty solid even with larger claims. Had a client once whose local insurer handled a major accident surprisingly smoothly—fast communication, fair settlement, no headaches.

Haha, insurance headaches...been there, done that, got the stress-induced gray hairs to prove it.

- Honestly, my experience with smaller companies has been pretty decent too.
- Had a fender-bender last year (totally my fault, sadly), and the local insurer I had was surprisingly chill about it—no endless phone tag or paperwork nightmares.
- But I've always wondered...what happens if it's something really big, like a total write-off or serious injuries? Would they still be as quick and easy-going?
- Feels like a bit of a gamble either way. Big companies might have more resources, but then again, they can also bury you in bureaucracy.

Anyone had a huge claim with a smaller insurer and lived to tell the tale? Curious how that played out...

I'm actually shopping around for insurance right now, and this thread hits home. From what I've gathered, smaller insurers can handle minor stuff pretty smoothly, but bigger claims might be trickier. A friend of mine totaled his car with a local company, and it wasn't terrible, but definitely took longer than expected. They didn't ghost him or anything, just more back-and-forth than he'd hoped. I'd say if you're cautious (like me), maybe stick with bigger names for peace of mind...

Had a similar experience myself. Went local a few years back after hearing good things from coworkers. Everything was smooth sailing until I had an accident—nothing major, but enough to need repairs. The claims process wasn't awful, but man, the paperwork and follow-ups felt endless. Big insurers might be less personal, but sometimes that streamlined process is worth it when you're already stressed about repairs and rentals...

Totally get where you're coming from. Local insurers can be great when things are smooth, but the moment something goes sideways, it can feel like you're stuck in a never-ending loop of emails and voicemails. Had a client once who joked that filing a claim locally was like being stuck in Groundhog Day—same forms, same questions, slightly different wording each time. 😂

But honestly, even big insurers aren't always a cakewalk. Sure, their apps and online portals make things seem easier at first glance, but I've seen plenty of folks get bounced around call centers or stuck waiting on hold forever. It's kind of a pick-your-poison situation: local means personal attention but maybe more hassle; big names mean streamlined tech but less personal touch.

Either way, accidents suck enough without the added headache of paperwork ping-pong. Hang in there—hope your repairs went smoothly at least!
