Saw this news segment yesterday about a family who got into a pretty nasty car accident. Thankfully, everyone was okay, but the other driver ended up suing them for way more than their auto insurance covered. Turns out, they had one of those umbrella policies bundled with their auto insurance, and it basically saved them from financial ruin. Honestly, I never really thought much about umbrella policies beforeβalways seemed like something only wealthy people needed, you know? But after hearing this story, I'm kinda reconsidering.
I mean, accidents happen, and people sue for crazy amounts these days. But then again, is it just another way for insurance companies to upsell us on stuff we might never use? Curious if anyone else saw this or has thoughts on whether bundling these policies is actually worth the extra money or just another unnecessary expense...
