Man, I totally get the frustration. I’m just shopping for insurance for the first time and the prices are making my head spin. It’s wild how much you pay and then when something actually happens, it feels like they’re looking for ways to pay out as little as possible. But yeah, hearing stories like your buddy with the Civic makes me nervous about going bare minimum. It’s like, do you risk it and hope nothing major happens, or just suck it up and pay more for that “just in case” situation? Not an easy call at all.

Honestly, I’ve been through this a few times and it never gets less annoying. The sticker shock is real, but I always remind myself that the “bare minimum” is only good until something big happens—then you’re on the hook for way more than you saved. Had a friend who skimped on coverage and ended up paying out of pocket for repairs after a fender bender. It’s not just about your car either; even a small accident can rack up costs fast. I get wanting to save money, but sometimes peace of mind is worth the extra monthly hit.

That’s exactly what happened to me last year. I went with liability only, thinking my car wasn’t worth much. Then a hailstorm trashed it and insurance didn’t cover a dime. Ended up regretting trying to save that $30 a month... but at the same time, I get why people do it. It’s a tough call if your car’s older or you’re strapped for cash.

Yeah, I hear you—liability felt like enough when my car was older, but weather doesn’t care how much your ride’s worth. Here’s how I break it down:

- Liability’s great for legal minimums and super cheap cars, but you’re rolling the dice on stuff like hail, theft, or hitting a deer.
- Full coverage costs more, but if you can’t afford to replace your car out of pocket, it’s probably worth it.
- Sometimes people forget comprehensive covers things totally outside your control—like that hailstorm.

I get why folks cut corners when money’s tight. But man, one freak event can wipe out all those “savings” in a heartbeat...

That’s the kicker, isn’t it? I used to think I was “winning” by just carrying liability, but after my neighbor’s car got totaled by a random tree limb, I started rethinking things. Full coverage stings a bit each month, but replacing a car outright would hurt way more. Sometimes peace of mind is worth the extra bucks.
