- State Farm's agent support is tough to beat, but yeah, their classic car coverage is just... meh.
- GEICO's rates can be tempting, but I've heard mixed things about their claims process—sometimes you get a rockstar, sometimes not.
- If you’ve got a specialty ride, Hagerty or Grundy might be worth checking out.
- Kentucky rates are wild—my neighbor’s premium dropped $200 just moving across town. Go figure.
- At the end of the day, I’d rather pay a little extra for decent claims help than save a few bucks and get stuck in phone tree limbo.

I’ve bounced around a couple times since moving to Kentucky and the rate swings are honestly wild. My last place was just a few miles down the road and my premium shot up for no reason I could figure out—maybe it’s zip code crime stats or something? Anyway, I’ve had State Farm for a while mostly because I like having an actual agent to call, but yeah, their coverage for anything “fun” or out of the ordinary is pretty bland.

Tried GEICO once because their quote was way lower, but when I had a minor fender bender, getting someone on the phone who actually knew what was going on took forever. Not sure if that’s just bad luck or what.

If you’re driving something special, Hagerty gets mentioned a lot in car circles—never used them myself though. For regular daily stuff, I’d probably stick with whoever has decent local support, even if it costs a bit more. Getting stuck in endless hold music is just not worth it to me.

Those rate jumps are wild, right? I moved from Louisville out to a smaller town and suddenly my premium dropped, even though my commute got longer. It’s definitely something with those zip codes and whatever data they use. I hear you on wanting an agent—when my truck got sideswiped in a parking lot, having someone local to talk to made the whole process way less stressful. I’ve heard mixed things about GEICO too, especially when it comes to actually getting help after an accident. For anything collectible or “fun,” Hagerty’s supposed to be top notch, but yeah, for daily stuff I’d rather pay a little extra and know I won’t be stuck in phone tree purgatory.

Yeah, those zip code differences are no joke. I’d rather pay a bit more for a local agent too—when you’re dealing with a claim, you want a real person, not some endless hold music. GEICO’s cheap, but I’ve heard too many horror stories about their claims process. I’ll stick with someone who actually picks up the phone, even if it costs a little extra.

I totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve tried the big-name, online-only insurance before, and yeah, it was a pain when I actually needed help. Still, I always wonder if there’s a sweet spot—like, is there a local agent that doesn’t break the bank but still picks up the phone? Sometimes I feel like I’m paying extra just for the peace of mind, but maybe that’s worth it... especially after hearing those GEICO stories. Have you ever had to file a claim with your current agent? Curious if they really come through when it counts.
