just saw a story about a guy in Kansas whose car got totaled by hail, and turns out his insurance didn't cover it.

Good points overall, but honestly, insurance companies aren't always out to trick you—they just bank on people not reading the fine print. Learned that the hard way myself after a tree branch smashed my windshield. Thought I was covered, but nope...deductible was almost as much as the repair. Now I always ask specifically about hail, flooding, and weird stuff like animal damage. Pays to be skeptical and thorough with these things.

Yeah, definitely learned that myself recently. Just bought my first insurance policy and realized how easy it is to overlook stuff like hail or animal damage coverage. The agent was friendly, but I had to specifically ask about flooding and even vandalism—stuff you'd think would be standard. Makes me wonder, are there any other weird scenarios or less obvious coverages I should double-check before finalizing everything?

Yeah, you're right to be cautious—insurance can be sneaky like that. One thing I've learned from owning classic cars is to always double-check the fine print on storage coverage. Some policies assume your car is parked safely in a locked garage overnight, and if something happens while it's parked outside—even temporarily—they might deny the claim. Another weird one is coverage for spare parts or custom modifications. I had a buddy who spent thousands on original parts for his '68 Mustang, only to find out after a garage fire that his policy didn't cover parts stored separately from the vehicle itself. Crazy, right? So definitely ask about parts coverage and clarify exactly what's protected if you ever do restoration work or upgrades. Better safe than sorry...

Good call on the parts coverage. Another oddball thing I've come across is windshield and glass replacement. You'd think that's automatically included, but some cheaper policies skip it or have crazy high deductibles. I learned the hard way after a rock cracked my windshield—ended up paying most of it myself. Definitely worth asking about, especially if you're budget-conscious like me...

Yeah, I had a similar surprise with my insurance. A few years back, I was driving my Audi down a highway notorious for gravel trucks, and sure enough—a rock pinged off my windshield. The crack wasn't huge, so I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. But when I called my insurer, turns out my deductible was so high that it barely made sense to file the claim. I ended up paying out of pocket, too.

These days, I'm way more curious about the fine print. It's funny how we assume certain things are covered until we're faced with the reality. Definitely a good reminder for everyone to double-check their policies now and then...
