Honestly, I always thought the app would be enough, but after reading this, I’m rethinking it.

“If your app won’t load (bad signal, dead phone), you’re out of luck anyway.”
That’s my worst nightmare—phone dies, and suddenly I’m explaining myself on the side of the road. Guess I’ll just keep stuffing that paper card in the glove box, even if it’s crumpled and coffee-stained.

That’s a really smart move. I know digital insurance cards are convenient, but you’re right—technology isn’t always reliable when you need it most. Like you said,

“If your app won’t load (bad signal, dead phone), you’re out of luck anyway.”
I’ve had my phone die on long drives before, and it’s not a situation I’d want to be in if I needed proof of insurance. Even a wrinkled paper card beats scrambling to charge your phone on the shoulder somewhere. It’s one of those “better safe than sorry” things, even if it feels old-school.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I think the digital route is still worth it for most people. Paper cards get lost or outdated way too easily—how many times have you realized yours expired and you never swapped it out? At least with the app, it updates automatically. Sure, a dead phone is a risk, but I’d argue that’s less likely than forgetting to replace your card. Plus, most of us have chargers in the car these days. Just my two cents.

- Totally get the convenience factor with digital cards—no more digging through the glove box for a crumpled piece of paper.
- My only hesitation: what if you’re in a spot with no cell service or your phone’s acting up? I’ve had my insurance app freeze right when I needed it.
- I keep both, just in case. Maybe it’s overkill, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
- Curious—has anyone actually been in a situation where digital didn’t work and you needed the paper backup?

Iowa’s not messing around if you can’t show proof, that’s for sure. I’ve actually had my phone die right before a traffic stop—glad I had the paper card stashed in the glove box. Digital is great, but tech fails at the worst times. Having both just makes sense to me.
