I totally get where you’re coming from—being stranded somewhere remote with a big deductible hanging over your head isn’t a fun thought. For me, I’ve actually weighed this a lot because I do a mix of city driving and the occasional longer trip. Honestly, I lean toward the higher deductible just because I haven’t had an accident in years and the monthly savings add up. But yeah, when I’m planning a cross-country drive, I do wonder if I’m pushing my luck. It’s a bit of a gamble, but I just keep a bigger emergency fund on hand in case something goes sideways.

- Totally agree, the savings from a higher deductible are real, but you’ve gotta be honest with yourself about your risk tolerance.
- I do the same—stash extra cash in my emergency fund just in case. But honestly, if you’re driving cross-country a lot, that risk does go up.
- One thing I watch for: some roadside assistance plans don’t cover everything, so double-check what’s actually included before relying on it.
- At the end of the day, if you haven’t had an accident in years and can cover the deductible if needed, it’s hard to argue against saving money every month. Just don’t get complacent... luck runs out eventually.

Man, that’s what I keep telling myself every time I see my “savings” from picking a higher deductible. Feels great until I remember my driving record is basically spotless because I barely drive anywhere except the grocery store and my mom’s house. But watch, the second I up my deductible, some rogue shopping cart’s gonna take out my bumper. Guess I’ll just keep padding that emergency fund and hope my luck holds out a little longer...
