Man, I totally get the Murphy’s Law vibe—seems like as soon as you up your deductible, every little rattle or squeak gets way more stressful. Honestly, the math can work out in your favor if you’re a low-claims driver, but it’s not always as big a difference as people hope. Sometimes, just knowing you won’t get hit with a huge bill if something goes wrong is worth the extra $10-20 a month. Peace of mind isn’t easy to price, you know?

I get the peace of mind angle, but honestly, I’ve run the numbers a few times and the savings from a higher deductible just don’t add up for me. Like, unless you’re driving a brand new car or have really bad luck, most years you’re just handing over extra cash to the insurance company for nothing. Had a year where I paid for “peace of mind” and never used it… kinda felt like buying an expensive umbrella that never leaves the closet. Maybe that’s just my luck, though.
