Honestly, I kinda get why they just hand out whatever’s available, but it still bugs me. Like, if you’re paying for coverage, shouldn’t there be at least a little effort to match you with something close to your own car? Last time I needed a rental, I ended up in a tiny hatchback when I usually drive a pickup. Couldn’t even fit my bike in the back. Maybe it’s not totally random, but it sure feels like it sometimes...

Yeah, I’ve had that happen too—needed a rental after a fender bender and they handed me this little compact thing that felt like driving a go-kart. I get that they can’t stock every type of vehicle, but it’s wild how little they try to match your actual needs. My friend once got a minivan when his sedan was in the shop… he doesn’t even have kids. Guess it’s just luck of the draw, but you’d think there’d be some kind of system, right?

Honestly, it’s like spinning a wheel—will you get the clown car or the soccer mom special? I’ve seen folks get a pickup when they drive a Prius. There *is* supposed to be a system, but between availability and what’s actually on the lot, it’s more “best effort” than “perfect match.” At least you didn’t end up with a moving van... that’s happened before.

That’s been my experience too. They’ll tell you there’s a process, but it feels like they just hand you whatever keys are closest. Last time I had to use uninsured motorist coverage, I ended up with a minivan—never owned one in my life. Didn’t hate it, but it was a weird fit after driving a ‘68 Mustang most days.

I get that they can’t stock every type of car, but you’d think they’d at least try to match size or style. Maybe it’s just not practical with how often people need rentals. Still, I’d rather get something oddball than be stuck waiting days for a “better match.” At least you didn’t get the moving van... that would’ve been a story.

That’s exactly what I was wondering—shouldn’t there be some kind of priority for matching at least the basics, like sedan for sedan? Or is it just luck of the draw? I’m new to all this and honestly a little nervous about ending up with something totally random if I ever have to use my coverage. Has anyone actually pushed back and gotten a better match, or is it just not worth the hassle?
