Someone smashed my parked car - deal with insurance or call the cops?

Came out this morning and found my side mirror busted off, no note or anything. Should I just handle this through insurance or is it worth getting the police involved? Not sure if they'd even do much, honestly...

- Honestly, cops probably won't do much unless you've got footage or witnesses. Been there myself...
- Insurance might be worth it if your deductible isn't crazy high - otherwise, you might just eat the cost.
- Side mirrors can sometimes be a quick DIY fix if you're handy or know someone who is. YouTube saved me a few bucks last time mine got clipped.
- Sucks though, people really need to learn how to park!

Had something similar happen a few years back - came out of the grocery store to find my bumper dented and no note. Cops basically shrugged it off without footage, and insurance wasn't worth it with my deductible. Ended up getting a buddy to help me pop the dent out ourselves. It wasn't perfect, but honestly, after a while, I barely noticed it. Hang in there...it's frustrating now, but you'll get past it quicker than you think.

Honestly, unless you've got solid footage or a witness, cops won't do much. Insurance-wise, if your deductible's high, it's probably not worth the hassle. Had a client once who filed a claim for something similar - ended up barely breaking even after the deductible and then saw his premium go up next renewal. If it's cosmetic and you can DIY or live with it, that's usually the smarter move. Sucks, but that's how it goes sometimes...

Agree with the above - if it's just a mirror, insurance probably isn't worth it. Had a similar thing happen last year, ended up grabbing a replacement mirror online and watching a YouTube vid. Saved myself a headache and some cash.
