- Totally agree on the telematics thing—had one installed briefly, and it dinged me every time I had to dodge a pothole or brake for a mongoose darting across the road. Not exactly fair when you're just trying to keep your bumper intact...
- Honestly, classic cars and telematics are like pineapple on pizza—some people swear by it, but for me, it's just wrong. My '68 Mustang doesn't exactly handle like a Tesla, and sudden braking is practically its love language.
- I've found that smaller insurers or specialty classic car policies sometimes understand local quirks better. They might not always be cheaper upfront, but at least they won't penalize you for avoiding wildlife or navigating island roads.
- Curious though, has anyone here tried going through a local broker instead of directly online? Wondering if having someone who actually knows the area helps smooth things out with insurers...

Haha, this analogy hits home. I drive an older Corolla—not exactly a classic, but still has its quirks—and the telematics thing drove me nuts too. Felt like I was being penalized for just driving normally around here. I switched to a local broker last year, and honestly, it did help. They knew exactly what I meant when I mentioned certain roads and potholes... definitely worth giving it a shot if you're feeling stuck.

I get the frustration with telematics, especially on older cars. But out of curiosity, when you switched brokers, did they help you find a better rate specifically because they understood local driving conditions, or was it more about personalized coverage options?

When I was shopping around, it seemed brokers who understood local conditions were definitely more helpful. Telematics was a nightmare for me too—my older Civic gets cranky in Honolulu traffic, and the device kept flagging me for braking too hard (like I had a choice with our stop-and-go roads...). Switching to someone who actually knew our island's driving quirks made a noticeable difference in both coverage options and pricing.
