Why does picking a deductible feel like a weird gamble?

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. I drive a lot for work, and honestly, knowing I won’t get slammed with a massive bill if something happens is worth the extra monthly cost to me. The “what if” stress just isn’t worth it, especially when money’s tight. You’re not alone in thinking a little peace of mind is worth a few bucks more.

Honestly, I get why peace of mind matters, but sometimes I wonder if the higher monthly cost is just money down the drain if you never file a claim. Ever wish there was a middle ground? Like, some years I barely drive my classic except for shows...

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. Picking a deductible feels like betting against yourself—either you pay more now for “just in case” or risk a huge bill later. I barely drive my car most weeks too, and sometimes it feels like I’m just paying for nothing. But then I remember that one time my friend got rear-ended out of nowhere... kinda makes me nervous to go with the lowest coverage. It’s such a weird balance.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I think it’s riskier to skimp on coverage just because you don’t drive much. Accidents don’t exactly check your mileage before happening, you know? My cousin barely used her car except for grocery runs, and she still managed to get sideswiped in a parking lot. The repair bill was way more than she expected, and her deductible made it sting even more.

I know paying higher premiums feels like throwing money away when nothing happens, but the peace of mind is worth something too. It’s not just about how often you drive—it’s about what could happen during those few times you do. I’d rather pay a little extra each month than be stuck with a massive bill I can’t handle if something goes wrong. Maybe that’s just my anxiety talking, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I get your point about peace of mind, but I’m honestly leaning the other way. I barely drive too, and when I crunched the numbers, the higher deductible actually made more sense for me long-term. Sure, if something happens, I’ll pay more upfront, but with how little I’m on the road, it feels like a better bet than paying extra every month. Maybe it’s just my luck talking, but sometimes I feel like insurance companies are banking on us being overly cautious.
