"if you're saving $10/month but risking a $1,000 deductible, that's a looong time to break even."

That's a fair point, but I'd argue it's not always about breaking even. I've had higher deductibles for years because, realistically, I rarely file claims. For me, insurance is more about catastrophic coverage rather than covering smaller incidents. Sure, it's a gamble, but over the long haul, I've saved enough on premiums to comfortably handle the occasional out-of-pocket expense. Just another perspective to consider...

I see your point, but it really depends on your comfort level. Personally, I drive a luxury car and repairs can get pricey fast, so I prefer a lower deductible. I'd rather pay a bit more monthly than suddenly have to fork over a big chunk if something happens. But if you're confident you can handle the occasional big expense, then yeah, higher deductibles can definitely save you money in the long run...

I'm still figuring this out myself, but honestly, isn't it kinda like gambling? Like, do I bet on my clumsy driving skills or trust that I'll somehow avoid disaster? 😂 I'm a student driver, so let's just say my confidence in avoiding curbs and poles isn't exactly sky-high yet. Last month, I scraped my mom's car pulling into a drive-thru (don't ask how), and the repair bill was... painful. Made me think twice about going for a higher deductible just to save a few bucks monthly. But then again, paying extra every month when I'm already broke feels like torture too. How do you guys even decide this stuff without losing your minds?

Honestly, I feel your pain... I went with a higher deductible to save cash, thinking I'd never need it. Then BAM, hit a pothole and wrecked my tire and rim. Suddenly that deductible didn't seem so smart, lol. Still debating if it's worth the gamble myself.

Totally get where you're coming from. I used to go for the higher deductible too, figuring I'd save money upfront. Worked great until last winter when I slid on some ice and cracked my bumper. Suddenly, coughing up that deductible hurt way more than I expected. Now I'm somewhere in the middleβ€”still saving a bit each month but not risking a huge hit if something happens again. Honestly, it depends a lot on your driving habits and where you live. If roads are rough or weather's unpredictable, a lower deductible might be worth the peace of mind. Learned that one the hard way myself...
