"Thought I'd be clever by upping the deductible to save cash for more trips, but ended up paying out of pocket big time."

- Interesting point...but doesn't it depend on how often you actually use your insurance?
- Personally, I drive daily through construction zones—maybe I should reconsider my high deductible.
- Curious if anyone factors in their local road conditions when choosing deductibles?

Good points raised here. I always wonder about the balance between saving a bit each month and risking a big payout later. I tend to be overly cautious—my area gets a ton of potholes every winter, and I've seen friends lose tires (and patience) way too often. Maybe it's worth paying a little more monthly for peace of mind? Curious if anyone else has adjusted their deductible after a particularly rough winter...

I've definitely been there—after one brutal winter, I hit a pothole so deep it felt like my car dropped into another dimension. Ended up with a bent rim and a tire replacement that cost way more than I'd saved by having a higher deductible. After that, I lowered mine just a bit. Sure, it stings paying slightly more each month, but honestly, the peace of mind is worth it when pothole season hits full swing...

- Totally feel your pain on the pothole from another dimension... pretty sure I hit its evil twin last spring.
- Had a deductible so high it laughed at me when I called insurance.
- Lowered mine too—yeah, monthly hurts a bit more, but beats the anxiety every time I see road crews patching holes.

Been there with the deductible laughing in my face... mine was so high I swear I heard it chuckle when I hit a curb last winter. Ended up lowering it too—yeah, monthly's a bit more painful, but at least now I don't break into a cold sweat every time I hear that dreaded pothole 'thunk.' Worth it for the peace of mind alone.
