I get where you’re coming from. I’ve always leaned toward a higher deductible just to keep my monthly payments down, but there’s that nagging worry in the back of my mind—what if I actually need to use it? Had a fender bender last year and suddenly that “savings” didn’t feel so smart. It’s a bit of a gamble either way, but I’d rather risk it than pay more every month for something I might never use.

Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around going with a high deductible when you’re driving something expensive. One scratch and the repair bill’s through the roof. Is it really worth saving a bit each month if you end up shelling out thousands after a minor accident? I’d rather pay more now than get hit with a massive bill later. How do you weigh that risk if your car’s worth a lot?

I get where you're coming from—nobody wants to be stuck with a $2k bill just because someone sneezed near their car in the parking lot. But honestly, sometimes the math does work out. If you’re a careful driver, don’t live in a hailstorm hotspot, and aren’t prone to parking lot fender-benders, the money saved on premiums can add up way faster than you’d think. I’ve seen folks go years without a claim and pocket the difference. Of course, if you’re the type who has “bad luck” following you around like a lost puppy, maybe not worth the gamble...

Honestly, I get the logic behind saving on premiums, but I’ve seen people get burned when they least expect it. You can be the safest driver in the world, but all it takes is one random act—like a runaway shopping cart or a neighbor’s tree branch during a freak windstorm—and suddenly that high deductible stings. I always tell folks: if you can’t comfortably cover your deductible out of pocket tomorrow, it might not be worth the risk, no matter how careful you are. Stuff happens when you least expect it...

I hear you on that—people always think “it won’t happen to me” until it does. I’ve seen folks pick a $1,500 deductible just to save a few bucks each month, then get hit with a cracked windshield or hail damage and suddenly they’re scrambling. It’s not just about being a careful driver; life’s unpredictable. Sometimes, saving on premiums just isn’t worth the stress if you don’t have that cushion set aside. I always say, if paying the deductible would wipe out your emergency fund, it’s probably too high.
